About the College:

• Established: Founded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2023, REC Mirzapur is one of the newest state-run engineering colleges in the region. As a brand-new government institution, REC Mirzapur offers fresh infrastructure, modern residential facilities.

• Type & Affiliation: It’s a government engineering college affiliated with Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow.

• Location & Campus: It is located in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, the college was operating from the campus of its mentor institution, REC Sonbhadra (~30-acre fully residential campus with academic blocks, workshops, hostels, health centre, etc.) during 2023-2025 session. Now from 2025-2026 session college will be operated from mirzapur itself. The campus is ready to welcome to the newly students.

• Total Duration: 4 years (8 semesters) for all streams 

• Admission Process: Based on JEE‑Main and UPTAC counselling 

• Eligibility: Completion of 10+2 with relevant subjects and fulfilling state-level entrance exam criteria (UPTAC).

• Fees: Fess is typically 50-50K per year of the academics. 10K is the hostel fees per year. Mess fees is around 16K per semester.

• Being a new institution, many professors are in the early or mid stages of their academic careers but show strong academic credentials and passion for teaching.

🌟 Why I Chose REC Mirzapur

Like many students from Uttar Pradesh, I wanted to pursue engineering at a government college—affordable, credible, and recognized. Through UPTAC counselling, I got a seat in REC Mirzapur, which was recently established in 2023. Even though it was new, the tag of a Rajkiya Engineering College and its affiliation with AKTU gave me confidence. Plus, I believed in growing with the college rather than waiting for a perfect one.

🧭 Expectations vs Reality :

✅ What Met My Expectations:

• Disciplined environment

• Good faculty support, especially in CSE and ECE

• Peaceful campus—perfect for focused study

• Great peer group: everyone is figuring things out together

🤔 What Was Different:

• The permanent campus is still under development

• Some labs and clubs are still in the early phase

• Fewer placement opportunities (for now) compared to older RECs

• Need to rely on self-learning (NPTEL, online courses) more than I expected

🙋‍♂️ Honest Advice for Juniors

1. Don’t overthink college rank. Focus more on what you do during your four years. Skills > Labels.

2. Take NPTEL or Coursera courses seriously from the first year—they give you an edge.

3. Participate in clubs and fests—even if you feel underprepared. It builds confidence.

4. Respect hostel life. It's not easy at first, but it teaches teamwork, adjustment, and independence.

5. Find your tribe. Good friends make college 10x better.
